- Grammar - fully selective state schools. Entry by 11+ exam only. Free. London has 19 per statute, all shown.
- Non-selective (Top 80) - comprehensive schools that made the Oxbridge Top 80 list. Formally non-selective, but often use faith criteria, banding, or interviews that effectively select.
- Semi-selective - state schools that select 10-33% of intake by ability or aptitude. The rest admitted by distance/faith. Free. List based on pre-1997 statutory arrangements + known aptitude selectors.
- Independent - private fee-paying schools (ISC members). Colour intensity = fee level (£28k-£64k/year).

Completeness
- Grammar: Complete - all 19 London grammar schools per statutory designation.
- Semi-selective: All from the statutory list (pre-1997 arrangements preserved by law) + well-known aptitude selectors. Not every academy with a 10% aptitude band is listed - there are dozens more.
- Non-selective: Only those that made the Oxbridge Top 80.
- Independent: Only those in the Oxbridge Top 80. Many more exist.
Entry points
11+ = Year 7 entry (age 10–11). 13+ = Year 9 entry. 16+ = Sixth Form entry. Some single-sex schools open to both genders at 16+.
